Accommodation in Nelson, Golden Bay & Marlborough Sounds

The Nelson region has been a popular holiday destination for South Islanders for many years, and the coast is dotted with private holiday homes and motor camps that have, until recently, been the main providers of accommodation for visitors to each, Golden Bay, New Zealand and Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. The extraordinary growth in visitor numbers in recent years has seen a flourishing of different varieties of accommodation, and today, if you take the time to look, you should have no difficulty finding something that suits you perfectly.

Bed and breakfasts have sprung up right across the countryside, and even if you cant see one in your immediate locality, an inquiry at the local store or gas station will usually turn up someone with a room to let for the night.

Backpackers, too, are plentiful, and while there are a few that only offer dormitory accommodation, most also have private room, with many including ensuite facilities. Motels offer anonymity and a bit of real privacy - which can be a pleasant change if you have spent your day meeting new people and perhaps speaking an unfamiliar language. Motel rates normally start at around $80, and provide excellent value if there are a few people in your group.

Motor Camps can be real fun. Unless you book well ahead, though, you are unlikely to find room in them from Christmas through to mid-January, when most New Zealander's are on holiday. They provide a spot to pitch your tent (or park your campervan), and ablution block and a kitchen. Motor Camps are a great way to meet people, and most hire cabins or rental caravans at refreshingly cheap rates.
